Job Title: MANAGER: INFORMATION SERVICES (Please read the specification and apply only if you qualify)
Description

The purpose of the Department of Information & Strategic Analysis (DISA) is to support strategic and operational management, decision-making and planning across the institution and to fulfil the University’s statutory obligations and stakeholder information requirements by providing high-quality, relevant easily accessible and up-to-date information and analysis.

Requirements:
 
  • An appropriate postgraduate qualification or NQF equivalent in a quantitative discipline such as Decision Sciences, Statistics, Mathematics or Information Systems and a minimum of five years’ experience in information and analysis and management in a medium to large organisation, preferably at a higher education institution and/or experience in providing planning and statistical information including query and reporting, analysis and graphical tools in a relational database and multi-dimensional database environment using client/server and intranet technologies.
OR
An appropriate Bachelor's degree or NQF equivalent in a quantitative discipline such as Decision Sciences, Statistics, Mathematics or Information Systems and a minimum of seven years’ experience in the above areas.
  • Knowledge of the following:
    • Windows and MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook)
    • Business Intelligence tools
    • Data warehouse/Data marts
    • Intranet.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate clearly in written and oral English.
  • Excellent analytical skills and insight into a complex systems environment.
  • Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, execute sound judgement and solve problems.
  • Ability to work accurately, independently and in a team, under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work beyond the normal call of duty.
 Recommendations:
 
  • Knowledge of university structures and databases, and in particular elements of a student database.
  • Knowledge of the following:
    • Cognos Impromptu/Powerplay
    • Oracle and/or Microsoft database
    • Higher Education Data Analyzer (HEDA).
 
Duties:
 
  • Contribute to the effective execution of the Departmental Strategic and Operational Plans by:
o   Managing and coordinating the institutional information service.
o   Supervising Senior Information Analysts and Information Analysts.
o   Extracting, organising and, where required, analysing information.
o   Monitoring and reporting on usage of the information service.
o   Performing data validation and checks.
o   Providing specialised information analyst support.
  • Exercise leadership, management and teamwork in areas of responsibility.
  • Practice appropriate professional citizenship.
  • Contribute towards Departmental organisational development.
  • Contribute towards Departmental change, transformation and diversity management.
